Are you subscribed to the airline frequent flyer program? If you want to save miles, you must first join the frequent flyer program. For a certain period after boarding the plane, there is a period when you can add miles later, but after that, you will not be able to earn miles that you could have originally saved. Also, if you want to collect miles without boarding the plane that will be introduced later, you will not be able to earn miles unless you link the various services and frequent flyer program numbers.
However, you may think that there are various mileage programs that cannot be decided! However, if you live in Japan, you will be troubled by two mileage programs: ANA Mileage Club and JAL Mileage Bank. You can enter both, but if you are aiming for a senior member, it is better to concentrate on one. So here I would like to introduce each feature.
ANA is a member of the air alliance called Star Alliance, and it is possible to collect miles and obtain award tickets mainly for Star Alliance member airlines including ANA. The total number of partner airlines, including 27 Star Alliance member companies, is 40.
Partner airlines and accrual rates can also be viewed from ANA's summary of mileage accrual rates. If you are using a frequently used airline, ANA Mileage Club has the advantage of becoming a member because it is easier to collect miles.
Reservations for domestic award tickets start from one year ago to the previous day, while international award tickets start reservations one year in advance, and domestic reservation start dates are slightly longer than JAL.
On the other hand, the fact that the membership campaign is substantial is a characteristic of ANA Mileage Club. As of September 26, 2019, the ANA General Card has a maximum membership benefit of 17,500 miles, and the ANA Gold Card can earn up to 23,000 miles. Although the maximum number of miles is not unconditionally obtained, a regular card can be used as award ticket for round trips between Tokyo and Sapporo.
Another feature of ANA Card is that it is easy to collect miles. Just by holding an ANA card, you can earn ANA Miles every year, and you can extend the mileage from 2 years indefinitely.
On the other hand, the ANA Mileage Club is rich in content and many people join it. Another feature is that the award tickets are highly competitive and difficult to acquire. Therefore, it may not be suitable for people who want to get award tickets.
JAL is a member of an air alliance called Oneworld, and you can collect miles and obtain award tickets mainly for airlines that are members of Oneworld, including JAL. The total number of partner airlines is 20.
For details on partner airlines and mileage accrual rates, see JAL's mileage accrual rate summary. If you use a frequently used airline, you can easily earn miles, so JAL Mileage Bank has the advantage of joining.
Reservations for domestic award tickets start from one year ago to the previous day, and international award tickets start reservations 330 days in advance, and domestic reservation reservation dates are slightly shorter than ANA.
On the other hand, the admission campaign is inferior to ANA Mileage Club. As of September 26, 2019, JAL regular cards have a maximum membership benefit of 1,850 miles and CLUB-A Gold cards can earn up to 8,050 miles.
Also, the ease of accumulating miles is not as good as ANA Card. If you do not board a JAL card, you will not be able to earn miles when you renew the card, and you will not be able to extend the mileage expiration date.
On the other hand, because the content is inferior, the award ticket competition rate is lower than ANA and it is easy to obtain. So if you are interested in getting award tickets, you can recommend it.
